(Háttér, Hungary) Transgender women who engage in sex work are at high risk of abuse. We talked to a few women who are advertising online and without panderers, which means a relative security. From their stories it seems that many have not experienced violence from clients at all, and some violence occurred due to the client being under the influence of drugs. However, the expectations towards them are high, as they are often required to maintain a feminine look and a potent penis, too – which is difficult because of the hormon drogs. Violence might occur if the client is unsatisfied with the trans sex worker’s gender and/or sexual performance. Some women turned to sex work due to the 2000’s decreasing earning opportunities in general, and in particular as a drag queen; others only engage in sex work for a year or two till they can save up for gender reassignment surgeries. There is hardly any demand for those who have had bottom surgery.
