Háttér Society is one of the largest and most active LGBTQI organizations in Hungary.
Founded in 1995, its aims are to protect the human rights and promote the well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people; and to reduce the fear and ignorance about sexual and gender minorities through their better integration into society at large.
Háttér works towards these aims by calling attention to the problems faced by LGBTQI people; lobbying against discriminative laws and promoting legislation protecting LGBTQI people; providing support services; encouraging the self-organization of LGBTQI communities; and preserving and spreading LGBTQI heritage and culture.
Our information and counseling hotline has been in operation since 1996; it is open to calls from LGBTQI people, their families, professionals or anyone interested in learning more about LGBTQI issues.
Since March 2014 we offer in person medium-term counselling free of charge as an experimental service. Our legal aid service has been in operation since 2000 and consists of a network of partner lawyers with different fields of expertise.
