(Hatter Society, Hungary.) Our first interview with a victim! Both of us, the interviewee and the interviewer, who met for the first time, are a bit nervous. Although I have made several interviews before, I have never interviewed a person about the violence she had suffered. But Adél (42) is so open and positive from the very first moment that we both calm down immediately. Apparently, living in a happy relationship with her female partner (and two almost grown-up children) makes her able to cope with her previous abusive relationship.
“Those 6 years… My partner says that one should not look at how many years people spend together but the quality of those years, and how good or bad they feel they were. Well, perhaps one or one and a half of those 6 years were good. The first abuse happened within a year… Yes, it was less than a year after we got together. She had a vehement temper. She was jealous. When it happened for the first time, when she pushed me first or… hit me, I wouldn’t have thought that it would get even worse.”
